A whopping two days before leaving for Amsterdam, we finished the coop! “We” meaning 80 percent Delia, 20 percent Eric, with huge assists from Dave and Peter.
The chix seem really happy. I’m loving just chucking cooking scraps and watching them go nuts.
And the view from above:
Any other urban chicken farmers out there? I can’t wait for the eggs, which should start coming, to the tune of 4 or 5 per chicken per week (we have four chickens), sometime in July.
More updates from Europe, so stay tuned!

We’ll save you some eggs, Stella!
Yep! chickens east almost every thing!

I love that you get to turn cooking scraps into eggs!
That’s my favorite part too! Screw composting.
Wow, those chicks do grow fast – seems like just last week, they were tiny peepers … and what a luxury condominium they have!
Love the shaded chicken run! My mom’s been raising chickens since she was five years old (there’re 94 at last count in her hen house) and was mildly amused to learn about this new trend, the urban backyard coop. Her chickens go nuts whenever she walks toward them with rice noodles or vegetable trimmings.
Golden rich chawanmushi….yummm….
The chicken coups remind me of the days I lived with my grandparents in the country and how wonderful it was to eat food without hormones y preservatives! Kudos! FYI, I’ve perfected one recipe out of your cookbook and love it. Keep ‘em coming.
94, lordy Thy. It does indeed seem to be a trend with legs, ha! I may be calling ma up for advice, please!
Those ain’t no chicks. Thems full-fledged chickens. No seriously, wow!

Wow, great job! Looking forward to more updates on your chickens. Have a great time in Europe.
Hey Delia, want to come to HMB and build another coop? I’ll cook dinner. Eric can come too, and play with the kids.
That ain’t no coop! It’s a Palace for your queens. Lucky girls to have such a glamor pad.
