The New Cookvook! The Breakaway Japanese Kitchen on the Iphone and the Web

breakaway_apple_banner_340

It’s finally up! Late last spring I inked a deal with the Vook people to produce a breakaway “cookvook” — a redo of the Breakaway Japanese Kitchen with video. Vook has garnered lots of press of late, so I’m really happy to be the first food foray in their lineup.

Lots of people have written me over the years, asking when a new edition of the BJK will be out. I’m happy to say: this vook is a rather breakaway version of the book! There’s definitely something nice about actually seeing the recipes being put together — it’s a very different experience from a regular book.  I hope everyone here will check it out. And: buying a copy would also help me defray some of the costs of keeping this site up and running — treat yourself and help me at the same time!

Check it out at Vook’s main site. And ask questions here, please! I’m happy to chat about all aspects of it.

Think I need some time to understand what this Vook is all about…never heard of it ;)

I've just taken a sneak peak. Do most recipes feature fish and meat?

Well, no, not really — there are chapters on salad, tofu, udon/pasta, potatoes/rice, and veg sides. Wish I could get us all a full look at it!

    Downloaded it. Like it.

The videos show just how quick and easy your recipes are. I like the mix of media, it's an app I can use while cooking in the kitchen.

Question, though, for the initial $5.99 will we get more recipes over time?

I had downloaded this ebook. In this book, all the recipes are given. It can be used while cooking in the kitchen. I had made one recipe and its taste really great.

Hi Kelly, thanks! Alas, the vook product is a one-shot deal . . . HOWEVER, I'm currently considering such a model for my next book; pay for the book, and get free updates forever. Would love everyone's feedback on ideal pricing models. Must figure out a way to pay for diapers and servers!

Hi Eric – I'm wondering about the Vook format. Does it include all the recipes and text of the original book published in '03 or is it a sampling? Thanks
