Wow, that's a nice looking farm that surely produces some very happy lambs. Awesome, wish we had something like that around here.

Eric, I am in the mid Willamette Valley(I have jumped in here from time to time..) StCroix were originally from the Caribbean, hence they do not depend on light for breeding..........I spent some time with these folks to decide on this <a href="http://www.rbrstcroix.com/index.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.rbrstcroix.com/index.html</a> I am excited for this new project!

Thanks for the mention about Veggie Trader - Yes people, I will design for food!

It's funny that you found inspiration from Food TV... I admit to that guilty pleasure.

Thanks Stuart. Book is tentatively due out in late spring. But a lot has to happen between now and then!

Pete, I know it's confusing, but it's not the Food Network people, it's the Food *Channel* people, whoever they are!

Countercorp John: go dude!

Marianne's StCroix lamb sounds incredible. Are you, like, in the Caribbean? I need a hair sheep!

And Amy, indeed. But, not Food Network! Poetic license to interpret freely on that one!

The I, Me, Mine was meant to be about individualism, as in no more sharing dishes at the table. Not sure the Food Network is hip to the whole DIY thing yet!

I love the eating local idea, but we try to grow what we can...we are also going to start raising StCroix Lamb for our own and some lucky people to consume...it is a "Hair" sheep..no shearing...and the meat is leaner and has a delicious flavor, especially after being raised in a natural relaxed atmosphere...did you know the stress of catching and hauling animals can destroy the meat in little time

A variation on Pollan's — and your — admonition (encompassed by items 5, 6, and 7):

"If an (alleged) 'food' is produced, processed, and/or marketed by a corporation, you probably shouldn't eat it"

Not always easy to avoid these days, but when possible, a good rule of thumb …

Let's put an end to Corporate Food!

As much as I love the Food Network.. they are, after all, a corporation, and for the most part, must wait to see if a trend starts catching on.

I too love the fact that they are embracing the breakway cook, and more formally encouraging going a bit deeper into cooking, to the experimentation level!

I hesitate to opine that Alton Brown has had an effect on the network.. =)

..but to echo Stuart, will there be a new book? =)
