The Breakaway Schemata

April 24th, 2008 Posted in Cooking ideas

I’ve drawn a cool little schemata/diagram of the three essential components of breakaway cooking. For some reason I can’t get it to post here, but do check it out by clicking here. Let me know if you can think of anything to add!

    Ok, first I have to say I love all these flavors.

    Oh, and does carrot juice live here somewhere? You are right, it is a great flavoring agent for many, many things. Fellow bloggers please, as Eric suggests, use this as a portion of your water when cooking rice. It is delish!

    But, I must admit, I’m not sure I’m getting this right. Is this a variation of what you cover in the “The Breakaway Cook” or something completely different?
    Tangy = Breakaway Pillars
    Savory = Local Organic Bounty
    Sweet = Flavor Blasts

    And what about the other foundational components to breakaway cooking you tout. How do these fit into this scenario. Are they not essential to breakaway cooking?
    Aesthetics in presentation
    Mindfulness (esp in enjoying your food)
    Simplicity (no-hassle cooking)

    Help Eric, I’m a little confused.

    Carrot juice should definitely be under breakaway pillars, thanks.

    No, the tangy/savory/sweet thing covered in the book is something different; those are just flavor profiles, whereas the schemata just talks about ingredients. Hence no mention of aesthetics, mindfulness, etc. Though that’s a great idea — maybe I’ll try to incorporate ALL of that into some kind of cool graphic.

    The problem is my Adobe Illustrator skills suck! Any pros out there willing to take it on in exchange for a copy of the book?
