More Salts

July 15th, 2008 Posted in Cooking ideas

I recently made some salts for the school auction of a friend. From the left: matcha, dried tangerine, smoked paprika, lavender, and umami. Now, if I only had some good labels! Any designers out there who want to give it a shot?

    Wow, what a brilliant idea!
    I love the colors.

    Have you seen chalkboard labels?

    You can get a plain chalkboard paper and cut into rectangles or however you want.

    Just a thought. :)

    I can make labels… But you’re gonna have to send a salt-bribe to B’more.

    I like this website for labels;

    Hi Eric,
    Thanks for stopping by my site. The eggs were great and I also made (and posted) the Edamame Shiso Salad which was delicious. You have wonderful ideas and recipes that are a pleasure to cook. Mahalo!

    I am so obsessed with using lavender right now. I can’t believe I didn’t think to make a salt! great idea.

    I printed up a run of lables for small jars of honey we collected from out beehive in Noe Valley (San Francisco, CA). I used Vistaprint.com and the turned out very well and arrived quickly. Since they are self adhesive, they worked well for the nearly a hundered jars. But I don’t know if you are looking for a few pretty lables or a lot of them…

    All those labels that everyone suggested are so pretty. But we have so many spices and when we teach our cooking classes, all the jars get handled so much that the labels wear off.

    We just resort Brothers label makers because they strong, very adhesive and water resistant too. They’re easily replaceable too and don’t leave residue when the old ones come off. For now, they’re not as pretty, but certainly more practical for us.

    Your salts are beautiful!

    Thank you everyone for all these great design ideas. One day soon I hope to have a logo and a label.

    I stumbled accross your site through a hint from the super eggplant. The matcha salt is gorgeous and I will try other combinations.

    Re/ labels: I am cooking lots of jam each summer and first made/ used labels, too. Now I simply use a marker that also writes on glass, I mean, different colours like black or silver for the different jars (you can’t identify ‘black currant’ when writing in black, don’t you?).
